10-a.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) I know that Bill told a lie.
(2) That Cindy is pregnant is true.
(3) George told me that he had met a funny girl.
(4) The trouble is that our quarterback is ill in bed.
(5) (that Bill told a lie)
N
/ \
that S
(Bill told a lie)
10-b.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
文(S)の前にif/whether をつけ、if/whether Sの形にしても、名詞(N)節となります。
(6) John wonders if Bill told a lie.
(7) I asked him if he could speak Japanese.
(8) (if Bill told a lie)
N
/ \
if S
(Bill told a lie)
(9) Whether/*If he made a mistake is unknown.
10-c.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(10) I don’t know where John lives.
(11) Do you have any idea when he will be back?
(12) I wonder who drove the car to the beach and back.
(13) Do you know whose car this is?
(14) A picnic? Great! Let’s decide who should bring what.
10-d.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(15) I remember what a good time I had at your party.
(16) It is incredible how fast she can run.
(17) (what a good time I had at your party)
N
/ \
what S
(I had a very good time at your party)
10-e.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(18) It is a miracle that he is safe.
(19) It is doubtful if/whether we should sign such a contract.
(20) It has not been decided when the next meeting will be held.
(21) It is written in the first chapter what a hard time he had when young.
